Jalapeno Poppers

It’s football season! That means snacks on the coffee table during the big game, bringing something shareable to a party, or quick and easy munchies in the lot at a tailgate. You can make everyone think you worked for hours creating one of the simplest tailgate snacks, jalapeno poppers! Margaret, head cook at Ashcombe’s Country Café, gave us the recipe for her famous jalapeño poppers. The recipe is so simple and turns out a delicious snack for any event.

Instructions:

Tip: Wear rubber or latex gloves to protect your hands from the acid in the peppers. It may also be helpful to wear safety glasses to protect your eyes from seeds. When you are done handling the peppers, immediately discard your gloves and wash your hands thoroughly.

  1. Preheat oven to 400° Fahrenheit.
  2. Line cookie sheet with parchment paper.
  3. Cut jalapeños in half. Remove seeds with spoon.
  4. In a large mixing bowl, beat cream cheese until soft. Fold in shredded cheese, garlic, and chives.
  5. Using a spoon, fill jalapeños with cream cheese mixture.
  6. Melt butter over stove or in microwave. Stir melted butter into panko crumbs to combine.
  7. Top poppers with optional ingredients and sprinkle with panko mixture.
  8. Bake in oven for 20 minutes or until golden brown.
